Documented throughout medical literature are examples of fungi infecting nearly every tissue in and throughout the body. Regardless, most times your doctor will roundly reject the notion that any of your health problems––even those of unknown etiology––would be due to fungi, mold or the poisons those organisms make. We, however, think the fact that you may have mysterious symptoms may be a good clue as to what is causing your health problems. Fungi and yeasts can cause a variety of symptoms in humans and until the fungal problem is addressed, many people do not find relief from symptoms. Trying to eliminate a systemic fungal problem is often the first time many people find relief from problems that have plagued them for decades.

fungus-link-diabetesFungi can gain access to our bodies in many ways, whether it is via the food we eat, what we drink, the air we breathe, the medicine we take or through things we touch, including other humans. Fungi are opportunistic organisms; given the opportunity, they will colonize anywhere, including our own bodies. Often, the point of entry is gut; particularly, if you have taken antibiotics (mycotoxins, themselves) the gut is where pathogenic fungi will first colonize. From there, they can proliferate throughout the body. This is known as dysbiosis, or when fungi colonize in the gut in the absence of more beneficial bacteria. Many practitioners believe that if you have a fungal infection anywhere on or in the body, you likely have fungus in the gut. Concomitantly, if you have a fungal problem in the gut, it is likely it has proliferated throughout the body, to varying degrees.

To combat systemic fungal problems, a full, unilateral approach is often necessary. Dietary measures are key; these include eliminating grains, sugar, corn, starchy foods and carbohydrate-laden foods. Also eliminated are alcohol and foods commonly contaminated with mycotoxins, including peanuts and pistachios. Instead, lean meats, fresh vegetables, fruits low in sugar, healthy fats, nuts, eggs, yogurt and grass-fed butter are encouraged.

Another part of this unilateral approach includes remediating indoor areas that may be contaminated with mold or mold spores and including a regimen of antifungal supplements. There are a variety of supplements that can be useful towards this end, including oregano oil, caprylic acid, garlic, olive leaf extract, cinnamon oil and clove oil, among many, many others.

These measures essentially describe our anti-fungal program called the Kaufmann 1 Diet. After spending 4-6 weeks on the diet, many adherents report weight loss, relief from symptoms and feeling better than they ever have. Gradually, people move to the Kaufmann 2 Diet, which is less restrictive and more conducive to most people’s lifestyle.

Pathogenic fungi can and do affect humans; a broad-spectrum, unilateral approach to eliminating them throughout the body may be the key to finding relief from symptoms that have plagued you for years.
